Axiom Staffing is hiring for a Shipping and Receiving Department Lead for a warehouse located in Alpharetta, GA

Location: Alpharetta, GA off ext 12 GA 400

Shift: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday (must be available to work overtime)

Pay rate: 20.00-25.00 (based on experience)

Contract to hire

 

Job Summary:

The Shipping Department Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of employees engaged in packing, shipping, and distributing materials and products. This role involves managing the day-to-day operations of the shipping department, ensuring compliance with company policies and shipping regulations, and improving shipping processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Shipping and Receiving Operations: Supervise the shipping team's activities, including packing, labeling, and loading goods, to ensure they are shipped efficiently and accurately.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and work closely with the purchasing and warehouse departments to ensure that shipping supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure that all shipping documents, including bills of lading, shipping labels, and export documents, are accurate and comply with local, national, and international shipping regulations.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to reduce shipping errors, decrease turnaround times, and lower shipping costs.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and evaluate shipping department staff, providing them with guidance and feedback to improve their performance.
  • Coordination with Other Departments: Work closely with customer service and production departments to ensure a smooth flow of operations and timely resolution of issues.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Ensure the shipping area and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Implement safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit reports on shipping activities, including timelines, volumes, and costs, to management for review.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in shipping, logistics, or warehouse management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving practices, logistics software, and inventory management systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with shipping software.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of safety management principles and the ability to enforce strict safety regulations.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach during the majority of the workday.

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position operates in a warehouse environment where temperatures and noise levels can vary. The Shipping Department Lead may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the needs of the business.
