Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exercise and promote safety
  • Possess Level I Pack qualifications
  • Possess Level I Load qualifications
  • Communicate with all BG departments
  • Feed material to other departments to keep packers packing and USI personnel scanning
  • Understand material positioning and placement between transfer areas
  • Possess a good work ethic and a positive attitude and is self-directed
  • Take initiative and has a desire for progress
  • Organize, segregate and stage material throughout the mill
  • Understand how to cut scrap and dispose of it in appropriate containers
  • Know department personnel, their roles and how to help them be more efficient
  • Know how to navigate material to different bays
  • Understand the workflow between age, packing and loading
  • Operate a bander
  • Operate the scrap saw and material for scrap cutting
  • Operate chop saw for scrap cutting
  • Understand and take resamples
  • Set up departments to maintain follow
  • Control sway of outside crane
  • Push long pieces of metal without breaking bands during transfer
  • Load trucks effectively
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education:  HS Diploma or GED
  • Minimum Experience:  6 months’ experience
  • Certifications Required:  Confined spaces certification; Crane certification; Fall protection certification; Forklift certification; Lock-out/Tag-out certification; Pallet jack certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Communication Skills:  Ability to effectively listen and communicate ideas and thoughts to others; able to assimilate ideas originated by others
  • Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • Reasoning Skills:  Ability to carry out and communicate written and/or oral instructions
  • Physical Abilities:  Regularly required to stand, walk and use hands; must be able to lift 50 pounds at any time during his/her shift; the physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
