Electrical Controls Technician

Job Description
Axiom Staffing is seeking an Electrical Controls Tech to assemble control panels at a company in York, PA. Pay is dependent upon experience, starting pay is $20/hour.
SUMMARY: Assembles, wires and tests industrial electrical control panel assemblies, racks, equipment skids and/or machinery containing PLCs, VFDs, HMI terminals, Machine Vision cameras, motor starters, power supplies, transformers, circuit breakers, fusible disconnect switches, relays, operator devices, instrumentation transmitters, conduit and piping. Work is performed in a job shop environment and requires prior related experience. Occasionally work may be performed at a customer site (typical OEM) or at a job site (typical End User) as part of the installation and check-out of a control system integration project
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Assembles enclosure bases, cabinet frames or equivalent structural components per manufacturer’s instructions resulting in square and true assemblies.
- Measures distances with rule to layout components on back panels or on panel
- Layout of components and devices on the external surface of Drills, punches, saws and de-burrs required holes and openings.
- Layout of components and devices on the internal back plate or side plates of the enclosure. Drills and taps holes in specified locations for mounting control
- Arranges and assembles components as detailed on drawings and specifications. Components are fastened in specific locations on back plates or enclosure doors per assembly drawings with units of measure in inches and feet or with metric system units. Assembles and attaches with bolts, screws and/or rivets in a predetermined order, such things as wire duct, terminals, din rail, circuit breakers, fuse blocks, relays, power supplies, transformers, controllers and identification nameplates.
- Cuts, strips, and mounts wires to connect electrical Crimps connectors and ferrules to wire ends as required.
- Installs wires according to specifications and information shown on wiring schematics in order to comply with requirements of wire type, size and color.
- Cuts, strips, bends and forms wire cable, conduit, pipe and instrument tubing used to connect circuits and sub-assemblies.
- Wiring of door mounted devices per standards required to be neat and orderly with provisions for protecting against mechanical abrasion or stress.
- Checks for wire connection tightness and performs electrical continuity tests on circuits (wired by others) with bell-ringer. Only tested & certified employees will perform Note: Shop personnel do not perform any live voltage testing.
- Produces computer-generated wire markers from project Engraving may be assigned on an as-required, as-approved basis.
- Discusses errors in diagrams or production order with assigned project coordinator or engineer to clarify assembly or wiring problems.
- While performing the duties of this position there may be a requirement to occasionally travel to the customer facility to accomplish these tasks.
- Assembles shipping skids and containers by cutting 1 x 3 's, 2 x 4 's, 4 x 4 's, 1 x 6 's or plywood and nailing with a hammer or pneumatic stapler and fastening wood with screws required to support and protect completed electrical enclosures during shipment on motor freight trucks or local hauler trucks.
- Keeps immediate work area cleaned up on a daily basis and assists with a general weekly clean-up of the shop area or clean-up as assigned by the Production Manager.
- Will be required to use a computer terminal to enter times for job costing and payroll purposes, as well as for documenting testing and Quality Control Employee will be assigned a company email and will be using Microsoft TEAMS to communicate with co-workers and supervisor.

- Education and/or Experience
- Graduate of High School or vocational-technical school. Requires six Months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of Education and experience.
- Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write general correspondence including an accurate time card for payroll. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures (add, subtract, multiply and divide) and understand the use of fractions and their conversion to decimal point numbers. Understands concepts of area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Has the ability to use foot-pound-second measurement system and the metric system.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer Skills
- General familiarity with operation of a PC including use of MS Word, retrieving and saving files and printing documents.
- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations: A valid automobile driver’s license is
- Other Skills and Abilities
- The ability to read and interpret electrical ladder diagrams (JIC symbols) and point-to-point wiring diagrams.

Tools – Position requires use of personal hand tools (or any tools for personal preference). Company supplies power tools and any specialty tools required.
Transportation – Should have a valid driver’s license.
